Girls Basketball:
The promising journey of the Lady Sabers 2010-2011 season began on a high note on Saturday. Led
by the dynamic duo of Seniors Taylor Atkinson and Mariah Hill the girls avenged last year's loss to
Mukwonago by returning the favor in a 53-44 victory, in a game that was never really close. Our girls
started out with the hot hand and rushed out to a 30-13 halftime lead and never looked back led by
Atkinson's 18 points and Hill's 12. Jenna Coenen added seven points but her endless hustle on the
defensive side of the ball coupled with her on-court leadership proved how important the intangibles
can be. Next up is the Panthers of Greendale.
All aboard everyone, the Franklin Saber Girls’ Basketball Express has left the station as it rolled over
the Greendale Panthers by a score of 61-38. Using a mix of man- to- man defense with a stifling 1-3-
1 zone, the Sabers dominated in every phase of the game. The deft three point shooting touch of
Mariah Hill (four three pointers and 14 points) and young gun Jenny Eickhorst (4 three pointers and
12 points) led the way on offense. Defensively, however, the night belonged to Cassidy 'long arm of
the law' Milhalko whose never ending gumby like arms produced countless deflections and made it
nearly impossible for Greendale to advance the ball beyond the three point stripe. Milhalko also had
12 points most of which were produced by Panther turnovers she caused. All aboard! Next
stop: Milwaukee to play the Bishops of Messmer.
Boys Basketball:
--The Franklin Varsity Boys’ Basketball team improved to 3-0 with a 60-54 win at Brookfield East
Tuesday night. Nick Romanowski poured in 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Matt
Krueger and Brett Ksobiech each added 13 points. The Sabers shot 50% from the field in the
victory and held the Spartans to just 17 first half points. Franklin will open up conference play on
Friday, December 10th when they visit Muskego.
--The Franklin Varsity Boys Basketball team started out the season 2-0 with a pair of wins in the
NY2LA Classic over the holiday weekend. In the first game, the Sabers beat Whitefish Bay 51-45,
holding the Blue Dukes to just two fourth quarter points. Matt Krueger led the Sabers with 19 points.
--Franklin Varsity beat City Conference opponent Milwaukee Vincent by a score of 67-62. Nick
Romanowski scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, hitting 15 of 20 free throws. Matt Krueger
added 25 points and Macon Plewa chipped in 5 rebounds.
--The Franklin Freshman hoops team outlasted Brookfield East 37 - 35. Franklin led 17 - 11 at the
half. Brookfield East came back to take a 4 point lead halfway through the 4th quarter. The Sabers
battled back to take a 3 point edge on baskets by Colin Ksobiech and Nick Bobos. Brookfield East
rallied to tie the game. With 6 seconds left Sean McGuire calmly stepped to the free throw line to hit
two free throws to seal the 37 - 35 victory. Bobos lead the team with 14 points.
