Pilot Holes<br />

Pilot holes for wood screws are<br />

recommended, especially for hard<br />

woods. They greatly lessen the<br />

possibility of damage to screws <strong>and</strong> to<br />

the wood. The hole in the first piece of<br />

wood should be bored large enough to<br />

accommodate freely the screw shank.<br />

FOR WOOD SCREWS<br />

In the the second piece of wood the<br />

hole should be slightly smaller than the<br />

screw shank, as shown in the chart<br />

below. The hole depth should be about<br />

one-half the length of the screw in the<br />

second piece of wood. the length of the<br />

screw chosen for the job will properly<br />

be at least an 1/8” shorter than the<br />

combined thickness of the wood.<br />
