An Extraordinary Initiative e new dining facility, located on the picturesque waterfront overlooking the Hampton River, will represent the absolute best in cuisine and provide an exquisite dining experience. e facility will also promote better studentto-student and student-to-faculty interaction. e University realizes that dining is an important component of community building. e three-story 100,000 square foot facility will house two dining halls, one for the students that will seat 1,500 and another for special University dining/entertainment events that will seat 1,150. To maximize the benefit of its prime location, the composition of the building will be designed to accommodate views of downtown Hampton through a three-story, convex glass curtain wall that will be the length of the building. e facility is surrounded by a terrace where diners can dine al fresco when weather allows. 1
2 Message from the Vice President for Development We are proud to honor the following alumni, friends and companies that have demonstrated a belief in Hampton University’s plan to improve the living/learning environment and the eort to make a dierence in our students’ lives. You were thoughtful enough to buy into the plan by making a contribution. ank you for your contribution to the New Cafeteria Campaign during the giving year that ended June 30, 2007. rough your gallant eort and unselsh generosity, $3.6 million was contributed in cash and pledges, qualifying for an equal amount of the $5 million challenge grant. We began this campaign with two goals 1) raising $5 million to qualify for a $5 million challenge grant and 2) reaching every “voter” in our quest for 100% participation in giving to the new dining facility. We interacted with you in several ways in galvanizing your support for the dining facility, i.e., talking with or emailing many of you and reaching others through correspondence. Your loyalty and support of the New Cafeteria Campaign have been inspiring through these various interactions. However, much work remains to help us secure the funds necessary to break ground for construction of the new dining facility in Summer 2008. Many of you have made gis to the New Cafeteria Campaign, and I thank you for contributing to this important endeavor and ask you to consider giving again. is Donor Report is a powerful endorsement by you, as it shows your support of the University’s vision to improve the living/learning environment and provide a value-added education. You are as critical as ever, perhaps, even more so, if we are to begin construction on the facility this summer. We are continuing the campaign through June 30, 2008.
