unlikelythat the ponticulus posticus is
acquired due to stress in view of 7.9
percent of our subjectsbeing children.
It is also very comparable to the foramen
for the first cervical nerve commonly
seen in most vertebrates, most
notably quadrupeds. As a result of our
findings, it is our opinion that the ponticulusposticus
of the atlas vertebra isa
genetically inherited bony arch formation
and isnot calcificationof the posterior
atlanto-occipitalligament.
