27. Thus, in the Phenomenology, the sequence of the experiences<br />
of consciousness is contingent only for phenomenal consciousness.<br />
We who recollect these experiences in so doing discover the necessity<br />
of the progression from the <strong>one</strong> to the next. What the Phenomenology<br />
demonstrates is the immanence in consciousness 6f<br />
every experience. But we must recognize that this (synthetic) necessity<br />
is not always easy to grasp <strong>and</strong> that to the modern r(;!ader the<br />
transitions appear arbitrary. Moreover, these transitions pose th"e<br />
problem of the relation of the Phenomenology to history.
