Teachers change lives. No matter how
many new buildings McCallie builds
or programs the school creates, its true
greatness lies in the dedicated, skilled
teachers who inspire, instruct, counsel,
and mentor boys day after day.
McCallie understands the need to
keep its teachers invigorated and
competitively compensated. The 2nd Century Campaign will increase endowment
to keep faculty salaries strong, provide funding for professional development, and
establish the Faculty Fellows program.
The Faculty Fellows program, created under the direction of Chairman of the
Board Ed Michaels ’60, is McCallie’s first fellowship to recognize and reward
exceptional educators. The first recipients of the fellowship were named at the
start of the 2008-2009 school year and were chosen based on alumni and parent
recommendations, performance in the classroom, class surveys and submitted
portfolios.
As the market for quality teachers becomes increasingly competitive, McCallie
must recognize the diligence and commitment that has defined the school for
the past 100 years. The Faculty Fellows program will reward and retain talented
teaching veterans that have given the school their all, while encouraging young
teachers to continue their work into the next century and beyond.
