Old Fort Days Continued From Page 7 This year at Old Fort Days, it was her time. In the Derby Trials she put in her workman-like run of 16.925 in the Trials and ended up the 3rd fastest qualifi er to the Derby Finals. In the Derby Finals, the ultra consistent Honey ran right back to form running a 16.952 just a couple hundredths of a second off her Trials time and fast enough to capture her the title of Old Fort Days Derby Champion and a check for $26,090 for owners Joe & Dee Braman. Honey is so consistent that Mowry said, “We don’t even video her runs any more most of the time because all her runs look the same!” For Honey, this big paycheck pushes her lifetime earnings into the $130k range and the title of Old Fort Days Derby Champion puts her in the elite company she should be in. For Mowry, even though she is a household name in the barrel futurity industry and has won nearly every futurity, this is her fi rst crown at the Old Fort Days even though she had cracked the top 5 several times before. It also turned around a week which started with two of Mowry’s futurity horses at the vet clinic. Luckily, both horses are recovering and doing well. Finally, Honey has the title she deserves and her admiring jockey couldn’t be happier, “I was really proud she got to take home that title. She is just really a lot of fun. There is nothing I would change about her, I would just make more of her!”, said Mowry. Mowry and Missjbrunninwithfi re will be long trotting and staying in shape for the next barrel race and if they show up where you are, well; there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to have to outrun the consistent pair to get the big checks.
