What is IDA?
Founded in 1960, the International Development
Association is the World Bank window providing
long-term loans and grants to the world’s 80 poorest
countries, 39 of them in Africa. Since its inception, it has
provided $182 billion for projects in health, education,
infrastructure, financial services, and other critical sectors.
Countries with per capita gross national incomes of $1,065
or less are currently eligible to receive funds from IDA.
IFC’s funding and operations directly support the goals of IDA,
paving the way toward economic growth, job creation, higher
incomes, and better living conditions for the poor. It comes as
part of IFC’s broader focus on the frontier, including a substantial
commitment in the poorest regions of middle-income
countries as well.
