Rhus toxicodendron (Rhus Tox) 6c for muscles stiff after
overuse, and the stiffness improves with gentle movement, and
when the person is restless.
Additional suggestions by Dr. Lockie to accompany use of the
above remedies is to take hot baths and apply hot and cold compresses
alternately to stimulate circulation. (Also see Home Remedies,
http://www.arthritistrust.org.)
For Bursitis, Dr. Lockie 72 recommends, to be taken 4 times
daily for up to 7 days:
Apis 30c when burning, stinging pain is made worse by heat.
Rhus toxicondendron 6c when tearing pain, joint stiffness and
swelling is made worse by rest and cold, damp weather, alleviated
by heat and gentle exercise.
Pulsatilla 6c when dragging pain and tightness is over the bursa
and discomfort worsens when affected limb is allowed to hang, and
there is general chilliness.
Sticta 6c for shooting pains.
Kali Iod. 6c when pains worsen at night.
Bryonia 30c when pain is made worse by heat or the slightest
movement.
Belladonna 30c when pain is made worse by the slightest
jarring, the joint is red, hot, and swollen and throbbing.
Ruta 6c when there is housemaid’s knee, pain in thigh when
knee is straightened, or a joint that feels bruised and weak.
Hormone Therapy
As multiple enzyme deficiencies (Wilson’s syndrome) can display
with more than 60 symptoms, including those accompanying
Bursitis and Fibromyalgia, hormonal replacement therapy or other
corrective hormonal therapy should be given serious consideration.
(See “Thyroid Therapy: Cutting the Gordian Knot,” http://
www.arthritistrust.org.)
Hydrotherapy
Use alternating hot and cold packs one to three times daily to
relieve pain, and stimulate blood flow. According to Leon Chaitow,
N.D., D.O., “. . . any hot treatment (or bath) should finish with the
area being chilled by a compress or spray (shower).” 4 If pain is
acute, apply an ice pack twenty minutes out of each hour for the
first twenty-four to thirty-six hours.
According to Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide, 4 soak
for twenty-five to thirty minutes, using a pound or more of Epsom
salts per bath. Rinse and rub down with hot olive oil, and do so once
a week. Also rosemary soaks can be used for hands and feet or one
might bathe the whole body by soaking for ten to fifteen minutes,
two to three times a day.
If ice packs are preferred, place one above joint and one below
for twenty minutes three times a day for one month.” 4 (Also see
Iron Overload
Veterinarian Leslie N. Johnston, D.V.M. 28 believes that there
is good reason to check every Fibromyalgia patient for iron overload.
(See Iron: A Double Edged Sword, http://
www.arthritistrust.org.)
In a rheumatology clinic in Australia, 339 patients were studied
over a 12 month period of time. Twenty three patients had
unusually high indices of iron — transferrin saturation and ferritin.
Twelve of twenty of these patients who were measured again under
fasting conditions showed elevated results “consistent with genetic
iron overload (hemochromatosis),” which can cause a variety of
illnesses, including cirrhosis of the liver, bronze skin pigmentation,
diabetes mellitus, heart problems (cardiomyopathy presented as
cardiomegaly), heart failure, and heart rhythm or conduction disturbances,
pituitary failure, abdominal pain, arthritis, chondrocalcinosis,
testicular atrophy and loss of libido.”
Dr. Johnston also reports that cattle, horses, monkeys (Lemurs)
and mynah birds are all capable of suffering from iron overload,
as well as man.
Two solutions to a potential overload problem is (1) to donate
blood, thus reducing your total iron content; (2) be chelated with
17
desoferroxamine, a substance capable of combining with iron radicals
found in tissues, and removing them through the urine. Iron
bound to protein in blood is not at all dangerous, but healthy. When
iron becomes free to bind with other tissues not intended to be
bound with iron, the condition can be unhealthy.
Magnetic Therapy
William H. Philpott, M.D. has developed excellent treatment
protocols and magnets for treating a wide range of diseases and pain
conditions. There’s no question of magnetic energy’s ability to reduce
pain. What is not so well known is that the polarity of the
magnetics used can enhance healing or inhibit healing. Dr. Philpott
has described numerous cases of not just pain relief, but also cures
of otherwise “incurable” problems. He’s also identified many physiological
functions that are affected by magnetism, too numerous to
mention here.
The definition of magnetic polarity used by Dr. Philpott is that
of an electrical definition of polarity, which is positive and negative.
This is purposely used when applying magnets to the human body
rather than the navigational definition of magnetism as north seeking
and south seeking.
The human body functions on a direct current circuit and thus,
references to positive and negative are most appropriate. A positive
electric field produces a positive magnetic field. A negative electric
field produces a negative magnetic field. This parallel makes it possible
to appropriately use the electric terms of polarity.
It has been recommended that it is preferred to use the electric
definition of polarity instead of navigational definition of polarity
when referring to magnetic polarity. An important point of referring
to the separateness of the two magnetic poles is that the biological
response is opposite to the separate poles. Some have elected to use
a positive magnetic field of a combined positive-negative magnetic
fields of low level gauss strength which serves as a counter-irritant.
However, the limitations of this is such as to not recommend this type
of stress reflex therapy. It is more appropriate to have a higher gauss
strength and use the negative magnetic pole for its anti-inflammatory
value.
Some have also elected to use a pulsing frequency associated with
a magnetic pole. Although this can be useful, it is not necessary.
What we have described in this article is a static magnetic field
plus a pulsing field. The brain makes a pulsing response to the magnetic
field it receives. When increasing the positive magnetic field the brain
frequency increases and the amplitude decreases. When the brain is
exposed to a negative magnetic field the brain frequency decreases and
the amplitude increases.
The resting brain has a pulsing frequency of 8 to 12 cycles per
second. This is a response to the negative magnetic field.
Sleep has runs as low as 2 cycles per second, which cycles per
second is anti-stressful.
Any pulsing frequency above 12 cycles per second is stressful.
Any pulsing frequency below 12 cycles is anti-stressful. The pulsing
frequencies can be used for their value separate from a magnetic field
or combined with a magnetic field. However, since the brain makes
its own pulsing frequency response to the magnetic field there is no
essential necessity of associating a pulsing frequency with the magnetic
field.
This is truly a magnetic resonance therapy.
It is an oxidative therapy by virtue of the increase in oxygen that
occurs under the influence of a negative magnetic field. A positive
magnetic field would decrease the content of oxygen in the tissues
under the influence of that positive magnetic polarity.
The pH Factor
Acute reactions to foods, chemicals, and inhalants are all acidifying.
