ROSES
Roses are known as the ‘Queen of Flowers’ and in our opinion it’s with very
good reason.
Modern roses will almost always be in bloom from the moment the weather
warms up, in Spring right up until Autumn turns into chilly Winter. And with
the introduction of the Brindabella heat resistant and Black Spot resistant roses
even gardeners in the more tropical areas can enjoy reasonably no fuss rose
gardening.
Roses come in many forms and colors, from the Ground Cover types that will
spread out and clothe the ground in a myriad of blooms, to the formal Hybrid
Teas that are perfect for picking to enjoy inside, the David Austins that combine
old world shapes and colors with modern recurring flowering habits, and let’s
not forget the beautiful and functional Floribundas with their wonderful clusters
of flowers on each stem. There are climbers to brighten up the most ugly wall
and also the very formal Weepers, Standards and Patio roses, your classic ball
on a stick which will provide many months of color form and the wow factor to
your garden. And don’t get me started on the fragrance..... Delicious!
Whilst roses have a history dating back millions of years, the future seems
equally endless. Not only are there numerous new releases each year from
extensive breeding programs and trials the world over, there are new discoveries
in rose types and characteristics that are leading continually to improvements.
So we can all look forward to a colorful and fragrant future of roses.
