ABSTRACT<br />
<strong>Blood</strong> <strong>component</strong> <strong>therapy</strong> is a very common <strong>in</strong>tervention practiced <strong>in</strong><br />
newborns; nearly 85% of extremely low birth weight (ELBW) babies get<br />
transfusions dur<strong>in</strong>g their hospital stay. However, there are no set<br />
guidel<strong>in</strong>es for transfusion of <strong>blood</strong> <strong>component</strong> <strong>therapy</strong> <strong>in</strong> newborns.<br />
This protocol <strong>in</strong>cludes available types of <strong>blood</strong> <strong>component</strong>s , their<br />
methods of preparation, <strong>in</strong>dications <strong>and</strong> side effects of transfusion, <strong>in</strong><br />
relation to newborns.<br />
