In 1988, Reinhardt built a home for Stan
Kroenke, current owner of the St. Louis Rams.
“My favorite room of any residential project
I’ve been associated with is the library in Mr.
and Mrs. Kroenke’s home,” said Jerry. “The
library is like a piece of furniture. It is all oak,
with a two-story atrium, walk-around balcony,
spiral staircase, and fireplace.” In 2002,
Reinhardt received a Kansas City Chapter,
AGC Building Excellence Award for the
Gaines’ Residence in Columbia.
In 1988, Reinhardt Construction Company
also built Jerry and Mary’s home in southwest
Columbia. “I am very proud that my
employees built the house, but my wife has
made it our home. She transformed it into
an oasis with her decorating, gardening
and cooking.”
WORK ETHIC
When he was a young boy in Centralia,
Jerry got a summer job working at the Centralia
Country Club. “My dad would take me out there
at 6:30 every morning before he went to work,”
he recalled. In high school, Jerry continued to
develop his work ethic as an Eagle Scout.
In college, Jerry achieved his dream of
playing collegiate golf. Although he never
seriously considered a future as a golf

allowed him the opportunity to compete at the
I first met Jerry in the Athletic Dining
Hall when he was on the University of
Missouri golf team and I was on the
University of Missouri football team. We
struck up a friendship that has lasted ever
since that time. Jerry is one of those true
friends who is with you in life’s ups and
downs. His friendship is one you can truly
rely on. I think he is going to make a great
Chairman of The Builders’ Association
because he has that same commitment to
everything he does.

collegiate level and maintain a focus on his
education. The Daugherty family would not be
without representation in the pro ranks,
however. Jerry’s sister Diane pursued a career
as a part-time LPGA touring professional and
head coach of the Southern Illinois University
women’s golf team.
“I was fortunate to grow up in a small town
where I could play golf, football, and
basketball. I had some great coaches who
demanded a strong work ethic,” commented
Jerry. At Centralia High School, he played
halfback for Coach Russ Sloan and guard for
Coach Carl Traicoff. “I remember Coach
Traicoff saying ‘You are going to run and you
will run’ and by golly we did run,” said Jerry.
He is still running. Every morning at 5:30
except on Sundays, he and Dr. Jerry Brouder,
President of Columbia College, jog three miles
together on the MKT Trail in southwest
Columbia. The indoor track at Columbia’s
Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) serves as
a backup “so if the weather is bad there are no
excuses,” noted Jerry.
CHANGING WITH THE TIMES
Jerry said that as Chairman, he looks
forward to helping Don Greenwell and his staff
promote the services available to our member
companies. “The Builders’ Association is
involved in so many complex areas, and they
are great at what they do,” he said.
Staying ahead of the technology curve is
one of his priorities. “Buildings are still built
with bricks, mortar, granite, concrete and steel,
but technology has transformed the way we
build and communicate. Ten or 15 years ago,
you could give one of my superintendents a
spec book and a roll of plans, but today they
want everything on an iPad. The changes in
just the past five years in our industry have
been mind-boggling, but there’s none better
than the Builders’ at helping companies stay
competitive.”
