One of the undisputed classics of the psychobilly wave, up there with the Meteors' "In Heaven" and "Held Down At Last" by Guana Batz, Demented Are Go's 1986 debut album combines absolutely smokin' hot rockabilly with the fury of British Punk and song lyrics that can only be described as, um, demented. Glorious rock and roll hymns like "Pervy in the Park", "Transvestite Blues," and "(I Was Born on a) Busted Hymen" (not to mention the craziest version of Gene Vincent's classic "Be Bop A Lula" ever made!) speak for themselves. A must! 13 EURO RED ALERT - We've Got The Power (LP, Radiation Rec.) By the early 80's, when leading Punk bands firmly established themselves on major record labels, and Punk Rock had lost a good portion of it's passion and excitement, a new wave of skinhead/OI! bands such as Red Alert, Peter & The Test Tube Babies, Blitz and The Partisans stepped in and spearheaded the re-emergence of punk. Originally released on the No Future label in 1983 (after three singles which made the UK indie charts top 30!), Red Alert's debut album "We've got the power" perfectly represents the suburban anger and grief of the working class OI! movement of the time. 13 EURO THE VARUKERS - One Struggle, One Fight (LP, Radiation Rec.) Dating from 1984 and originally on the Liberate label, this was The Varukers' second studio album, now available on vinyl again for the first time. This is where the band got the most aggressive in their music, with more metallic riffs and thrashy inserts, though not too different from the out-of-control hardcore fury of their early years, and keeping their political message loud and clear: "Human Freedom, Animal Rights, It's One Struggle, It's One Fight." Female-fronted, Portuguese-sung, Os Mutantes-fueled, tropicalia-inspired, exotic and erotic psychedelic garage from half of Sardinia's garage legends THE RIPPERS and LOVE BOAT and a crazy Brazilian/Italian couple whose taste in music is well known to the underground garage scene thanks to a bunch of 7"s and tapes released under the revealing moniker of 'shit music'. Equal parts French and Italian, and incuding our almost-omnipresent Cheb Samir (of Normals, Yussuf Jerusalem, and Capputtini ?i lignu fame), Bobsleigh baby is the epitome of the fresh, simple, garage-y yet artsy feel you can get in their commander-in-chief Bob Junior's "Fanfulla" club, in the heart of the legendary Pigneto neighborhood in Rome. Capputtini 'I lignu is the result of the encounter between a boy (the multitalented Cheb Samir from Crack und ultra eczema, Normals, Black souls of Leviathan, Two tears etc.) and a girl, the dangerous sicilian femme fatale Cristina (also in Corpus Christi). Proud children of the rising new art-punk scene in Rome, the duo fills this record with sin, obsession, death, Appalachian rituals, whiskey driven despair, throbbing passion and greasy Sicilian meat pastries.
