Parish Profiles The profiles of each of the component parishes are set out below in Appendices A-E. The congregations reflect the broad spectrum of styles of worship and church life found in village communities. The congregations of each parish are open to the opportunities of sharing resources and ministry in the new United Benefice. As we go forward there is recognition that we will need a strategy with clear goals stimulated by an open commitment to each other. The current constituent PCCs welcome creative ideas and have among them lay people who are ready to support the clergy not only in terms of maintaining the church building, committees and social events, but also by contributing through lay ministry. Church Buildings and Finances The new priest will be based in Ash (details of the vicarage are given in the Ash profile attached). All the parishes of the new benefice are within 15 minutes’ drive by car form Ash and there is a regular bus service between Ash and Wingham. Each PCC within the new benefice has outlined its financial position in the individual profiles. For the current clustering there already exists an undertaking of how the parish shares are apportioned for payment to the Diocese. As with most congregations all the churches are managing to meet their financial commitments and rely on regular stewardship campaigns and other fund raising activities. All the churches have active members of the congregation who also contribute through giving of their time and talents. The fabrics of the churches within the new benefice are in relatively good order and, as with all ancient buildings, they need constant repair and maintenance – a significant amount of which is undertaken by the members of the congregation. 3
