edinburgh
collection
The Edinburgh Collection is named for one
of Europe’s most architecturally beautiful and
historically interesting cities. Edinburgh’s history
may be said to have begun when Malcolm III of
Scotland erected a castle there in the late eleventh
century, and his wife built the Chapel of St.
Margaret, the city’s oldest surviving building.
By the end of the 1500s, Edinburgh was
established as the capital of Scotland. While
Edinburgh lost its independent Parliament in 1707,
the city continued to grow and prosper during the
Enlightenment. Edinburgh blossomed as a cultural
center in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries,
led by philosophers David Hume and Adam Smith,
and writers robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott.
The distinctive Edinburgh Collection is made of
solid wild black cherry and consists of bedrooms,
dining rooms, and an occasional group. All
pieces are inspired by the Glasgow Style of
furniture introduced in the early twentieth century
by Scottish designer Charles rennie Mackintosh
(1868-1928). The collection is designed,
detailed, sized, and finished to fit today’s homes
and lifestyles.
