Nowadays, some degree of accord exists in a sense that if the pure physical models want to be used as predictive operational models they have to be calibrated or validated in field conditions. Moreover, in many cases physical models combine other empirical or semiempirical submodels for some of the processes included in them or they use assumptions and/or simplications or complex subprocesses.
In summary, the limits among the different types of models are becoming increasingly diffused in terms of its construction and applicability to the real world.
