Dog whisperer
feels the love
There were cheers and tears aplenty
at the River Rock Casino Resort
Thursday morning as excited canine
lovers gathered to meet TV’s dog
whisperer, Cesar Millan.
The famed mentor to man’s best
friend was in town this week for the
Canadian tour of his live show and
took the time to sign autographs and
snap photos with fans.
Many of his admirers were clearly
moved to see the doggy expert in the
flesh — one woman openly wept as
she thanked Millan for strengthening
her relationship with her pets.
“It makes it worth it to know that
people are very grateful for what I
create for them, and the awareness
that I bring for them,” Millan said of
the adulation, adding he was enjoying
meeting his ardent Canadian
devotees. “It’s an overwhelming feeling
of love and appreciation … Canadians
have this welcoming way of
being. It’s very unique. Every coun-
try has a certain energy and Canadians
are very apologetic and if they’re
not apologizing they’re admiring
you.”
Nathan Hebb, 8, even skipped
school to meet his idol and came to
the meet-and-greet dressed up as the
reality show host, donning a shirt
that was covered with tiny toy dogs.
“I’m going to be the dog whisperer
for Halloween,” he said proudly.
Millan was touched by Hebb’s devotion.
“Everybody wants to follow someone
who’s doing good. I’m glad that
I’m doing good and that he’s following
the steps of doing good and hopefully
he becomes the next dog whisperer,”
he said.
“I hope a lot of kids in the world
want to be their own dog whisperers.”
Millan returns to the Lower Mainland
for two additional shows on
Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 at the Red Robinson
Show Theatre. Tickets at Ticketmaster.
