FOR <strong>API</strong> <strong>6A</strong> WELLHEAD GATE VALVES<br />

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:<br />

the Model APPM ac<strong>tu</strong>ator is a piston type, pneumatically-powered<br />

gate valve ac<strong>tu</strong>ator with an integrated manual override designed to<br />

operate a “fail-closed” or “fail-open” safety valve. It is ideally suited<br />

for wellhead safety valve applications, flow lines, header valves and<br />

gathering lines. It can also be used for casing relief valve and<br />

storage valve applications.<br />

the Model APPM ac<strong>tu</strong>ator is easy to maintain and engineered to<br />

ensure years of trouble-free service in the harshest of environments<br />

and operating conditions.<br />

the Model APPM ac<strong>tu</strong>ator is currently only delivered as a complete<br />

ac<strong>tu</strong>ated valve assembly ready to be placed in service.<br />

FEATURES AND BENEFITS:<br />

Longer Top Shaft Seal Life: Polypak seals are used for<br />

ac<strong>tu</strong>ator shaft sealing applications. these seals are<br />

protected from accumulation of dirt and debris by a durable<br />

wiper ring. these two fea<strong>tu</strong>res provide long seal life and<br />

minimal maintenance.<br />

Ease of Maintenance: the APPM is easy to maintain.<br />

the Ac<strong>tu</strong>ator design allows for easy removal of the piston<br />

housing for piston and shaft seal replacement.<br />

Improved Corrosion Control: All non-stainless components<br />

are coated with Xylan and Polyester tGIc providing resistance<br />

against the corrosive effect of harsh environments.<br />

Over-Pressurization Protection: A pressure relief device<br />

located on the Ac<strong>tu</strong>ator top case protects personnel from<br />

over-pressurization of the ac<strong>tu</strong>ator assembly. It is located<br />

for easy field inspection and replacement.<br />

Confirmation of Bonnet Stem / Back Seat Seal Integrity:<br />

the bonnet is designed with a test fitting below the<br />

bonnet packing seals. this test fitting provides for<br />

verification of the bonnet stem metal to metal backseat<br />

pressure sealing integrity.<br />

Flexible Adaption: the APPM Ac<strong>tu</strong>ator can be mounted<br />

on the secondary master or wellhead flow wing. the<br />

ac<strong>tu</strong>ator can be mounted at any point where safety shut<br />

down or safety valves are required.<br />

Easy Closing: the APPM Ac<strong>tu</strong>ator can manually open<br />

the gate valve in case of pneumatic control pressure loss<br />

or mechanical failure without assistance of an outside<br />

pressure source.<br />

Visual Confirmation of Bonnet Packing: A tattletale port<br />

located above the bonnet packing seals provides visual<br />

confirmation of the packing integrity.<br />

Multiple Safeguards Against Well Fluids Contamination:<br />

the bonnet incorporates multiple safeguards against<br />

the invasion of well fluids into the ac<strong>tu</strong>ator housing. these<br />

safeguards are:<br />

• Multiple Polypak bonnet stem seals<br />

• Packing integrity port<br />

• Metal to metal back seat/stem seal<br />

• secondary seals<br />

(shown with typical bonnet assembly)<br />

Pneumatic Control Supply: the APPM Ac<strong>tu</strong>ator operates<br />

at a maximum of 250 psi.<br />

Fail Safe Operation: the APPM Ac<strong>tu</strong>ators will close a gate<br />

valve to the “fail safe” or “fail close” position automatically.<br />
