TECHNICAL Positions:<br />

There are a variety of technical positions at<br />

<strong>PowerStream</strong>. Most of <strong>the</strong>se positions are preceded<br />

by an apprenticeship. Technical positions provide a<br />

great opportunity to apply <strong>the</strong> skills and knowledge<br />

obtained through post-secondary education.<br />

<strong>PowerStream</strong> looks for <strong>the</strong> following educational<br />

requirements for different positions:<br />

3-Year Community College Diploma in Electrical or<br />

Electronics Technology:<br />

• Protection & Control Technologist, Station<br />

Maintenance Technician, System Controller,<br />

Design Technician, CDM Account Specialist,<br />

Metering Technologist<br />

2-Year Community College Diploma in Electrical or<br />

Electronics Technology:<br />

• Service Layout Technician, Cable Locator,<br />

Inspector, Journeyman Meter Technician<br />

2-Year Community College Diploma in Electrical or<br />

Electronics Technology/ GIS Certificate and/or<br />

Degree from a certified University or College<br />

• GIS Technician<br />

HOW DO WE PROMOTE SAFETY?<br />

<strong>PowerStream</strong> strives to provide <strong>the</strong> safest working<br />

environment for our employees. We offer<br />

constant training and continually implement<br />

programs to continue to improve upon our safety<br />

culture. Each fulltime trades and technical<br />

employee is provided a full complement of<br />

personal protective clothing.<br />

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HIRED FOR<br />

TRADE OR TECHNICAL POSITIONS<br />

ANNUALLY?<br />

Recruitment is based on operational needs and<br />

vacancies. It is not always known how many<br />

positions will become available from year-to-year,<br />

however, operational needs are reviewed annually.<br />

TRADE Positions:<br />

Journeyman Power Lineperson: This rewarding career<br />

is both challenging and physically demanding, and<br />

begins with a four-year apprenticeship. Successful<br />

applicants will be prepared to work on <strong>the</strong><br />

construction, maintenance and troubleshooting of<br />

energized overhead and underground electrical<br />

distribution systems with a high focus on safety.<br />

Designated as a Red Seal Trade, <strong>the</strong> recognition of your<br />

certificate is ensured across <strong>the</strong> nation. This trade is<br />

ideal for individuals who like working in varying<br />

extreme climates and have <strong>the</strong> ability to work at<br />

different heights. A minimum of a Grade 12 education<br />

with courses in Math and Science, particularly Physics,<br />

as well as English is required. Post-secondary education<br />

based on electrical <strong>the</strong>ory is considered an asset.<br />

WHAT DOES THE SELECTION PROCESS<br />

CONSIST OF?<br />

All applications to specific job postings are<br />

screened, and candidates will be selected on <strong>the</strong><br />

basis of <strong>the</strong> eligibility and selection criteria<br />

specified in each job posting. Applicants must<br />

submit <strong>the</strong>ir resumes by <strong>the</strong> closing date<br />

mentioned in each job posting. Selected<br />

candidates will be interviewed. While interviews<br />

are partially based on technical competencies,<br />

behavioural competencies are also largely<br />

important as we strive to employ individuals who<br />

are a great fit with our corporate values:<br />

Teamwork, Safety, Performance, Initiative and<br />

Accountability.<br />

CO-OP Positions:<br />

<strong>PowerStream</strong> advocates an engaged learning<br />

environment and offers a variety of Fall, Winter<br />

and Summer Co-ops in a number of areas. Co-op<br />

position openings are forwarded to area colleges<br />

to be posted. Co-op positions may be offered in<br />

<strong>the</strong> following areas: Engineering Planning,<br />

Conservation Demand Management, Capital,<br />

Protection & Control, and Inspection & Locates,<br />

Station Maintenance and Lines.<br />

<strong>PowerStream</strong> offers apprenticeships in a number<br />

of different areas, depending on operational<br />

needs. Apprenticeships are featured in <strong>the</strong><br />

following areas: Lines, System Control, Protection<br />

& Control, Station Maintenance, and Metering.
