TECHNICAL Positions:
There are a variety of technical positions at
PowerStream. Most of these positions are preceded
by an apprenticeship. Technical positions provide a
great opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge
obtained through post-secondary education.
PowerStream looks for the following educational
requirements for different positions:
3-Year Community College Diploma in Electrical or
Electronics Technology:
• Protection & Control Technologist, Station
Maintenance Technician, System Controller,
Design Technician, CDM Account Specialist,
Metering Technologist
2-Year Community College Diploma in Electrical or
Electronics Technology:
• Service Layout Technician, Cable Locator,
Inspector, Journeyman Meter Technician
2-Year Community College Diploma in Electrical or
Electronics Technology/ GIS Certificate and/or
Degree from a certified University or College
• GIS Technician
HOW DO WE PROMOTE SAFETY?
PowerStream strives to provide the safest working

constant training and continually implement
programs to continue to improve upon our safety
culture. Each fulltime trades and technical
employee is provided a full complement of
personal protective clothing.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HIRED FOR
TRADE OR TECHNICAL POSITIONS
ANNUALLY?
Recruitment is based on operational needs and
vacancies. It is not always known how many
positions will become available from year-to-year,
however, operational needs are reviewed annually.
TRADE Positions:
Journeyman Power Lineperson: This rewarding career
is both challenging and physically demanding, and
begins with a four-year apprenticeship. Successful
applicants will be prepared to work on the
construction, maintenance and troubleshooting of
energized overhead and underground electrical
distribution systems with a high focus on safety.
Designated as a Red Seal Trade, the recognition of your
certificate is ensured across the nation. This trade is
ideal for individuals who like working in varying
extreme climates and have the ability to work at
different heights. A minimum of a Grade 12 education
with courses in Math and Science, particularly Physics,
as well as English is required. Post-secondary education
based on electrical theory is considered an asset.
WHAT DOES THE SELECTION PROCESS
CONSIST OF?
All applications to specific job postings are
screened, and candidates will be selected on the
basis of the eligibility and selection criteria
specified in each job posting. Applicants must
submit their resumes by the closing date
mentioned in each job posting. Selected
candidates will be interviewed. While interviews
are partially based on technical competencies,
behavioural competencies are also largely
important as we strive to employ individuals who
are a great fit with our corporate values:
Teamwork, Safety, Performance, Initiative and
Accountability.
CO-OP Positions:
PowerStream advocates an engaged learning
environment and offers a variety of Fall, Winter
and Summer Co-ops in a number of areas. Co-op
position openings are forwarded to area colleges
to be posted. Co-op positions may be offered in
the following areas: Engineering Planning,
Conservation Demand Management, Capital,
Protection & Control, and Inspection & Locates,
Station Maintenance and Lines.

job training while earning a competitive wage.
Formal apprenticeships programs are generally
four years in duration
PowerStream offers apprenticeships in a number
of different areas, depending on operational
needs. Apprenticeships are featured in the
following areas: Lines, System Control, Protection
& Control, Station Maintenance, and Metering.
