saying goodbye to the old century and welcoming a new one. This new decade was a fantastic 

skyrocket until it crashed in flames. And what a crash it has been! We can all forget the past two 

years... 

Actually we have been using the lull to develop new products and refine others, and here are the 

results. Please enjoy. There are new wire access grommets, power and data grommets, new legs 

and pulls, a whole new concept in a coat rack, new MPB’s and, of course, our legendary design 

contest inspirations. Plus a few surprises.

Fine First Place Awards 

2009 was the first year we accepted entries via email. We had more than 60 of them 

via email and a grand total of 120. Usually we get about 100, so in a down economy 

it was gratifying to see a 20% increase. And entries from all over the world, from every 

continent. So maybe almost halfway through its second decade, our little competition is 

making its mark! 

The judges found two entries to be worthy of First Place. 

John O’Connor, Griffith, IN 

John designed an extraordinary extruded aluminum shelf 

support. As he said in his submission, “... simple architectural 

form creates an eye-catching and pleasing design”. 

It will be about 6” by 8” overall in size and quite sturdy. 

It can be used with either the 6” or 8” side as the support, 

to accommodate shelves up to 10” deep. We think we’ll bevel 

the edges and make it available in a nice Satin Aluminum finish 

as well as Black Anodized. See page 30. 

Jeffrey Bolen, Marina del Rey, CA 

Perhaps we’ve been at the furniture parts biz 

too long. There aren’t too many table leg designs 

that elicit a “wow!” from our long time judges. 

(Or maybe we’ve had the judges too long?) 

Jeffrey, an architect, sent in a leg design that was 

a “WOW!”. It is very unique. Made of stainless 

steel and dark wood with stainless fasteners, 

with a stepped design that is broad at the top 

and steps down to almost a point. 

Perfect for your contemporary furniture designs! 

We will be offering it on a custom basis, so we can 

make it to your exact dimension, stainless finish, 

wood choice, and wood finish.

This model has proven frustrating to make. 

However, after some fine tuning, we sharpened 

the design and are now proud to introduce it. 

Press down on the top and flip the cradle 

mechanism all the way around to access 

the power and data components. Unit rotates 

180° and locks in position with the power 

and data exposed, and then flips back 

to hide away when not in use. 

It is perfect for blending with any surface. 

It has a custom slot across the top to insert 

any matching wood or laminate. Or you 

can choose standard Satin Aluminum 

or Black Anodized finish.

PCS50 Series 

Unique pop up design incorporates a 

brush liner into the front edge for wire 

management. Gently push on the front 

end of the unit and the spring loaded lid 

pops up revealing a flat face for easy access 

to the power and data components. Clicks 

closed for a clean and low profile look. When 

the unit is closed, it allows the brush liner 

to catch and hold any stray cabling above 

the surface for future use to avoid stumbling 

under the desk to find it. A large gap area 

allows easier user access and wire pass 

through from underneath. Brush liner also 

prevents dust from getting into the unit.

Features a clean unobtrusive look on any 

desk or table. A thin, hinged lid opens 

manually to reveal its power and data com- 

ponents which are housed on the face of the

featuring a new slot design. This new design allows 

cords to be plugged in while the lid is closed and

two small holes for wire pass-through, the new slot 

design has a long, continuous opening which makes

freely back and forth across the front of the unit.

Introducing the first ever Power and 

Communications Grommet specifically 

designed for areas with potential spill 

hazards. The new data feature creates 

new network versatility and opens new 

avenues for usage. A water-tight seal 

from the rubber trim ring makes this 

the ideal addition to any kitchen, 

laboratory, or medical office, with 

the data connections providing 

added convenience and functionality. 

This new configuration consists of two 

power outlets rated 15A/125VAC and 

two Category 5e data modules 

with an 8 1/2 ft power cord. 

Simply pull up on the two metal D-rings 

to pull the unit up out of the table. The 

unit clicks and locks into place once fully 

extended above the surface. To close the 

unit, press the red button on the bottom 

and push the unit back down into its 

base. Also has a reset switch that 

lights up when the power is “on.” 

Installation is as easy as drilling a 3 5/32” 

hole and dropping the unit into the table.

Similar to the KP7, however this keyboard 

tray sets itself apart with its amazingly 

functional mouse platform. This 

omni-directional platform can swing from 

the left to the right, sweeping across the 

front of the tray, and it also tilts or rotates

round grommets, our RG rectangular and LO large

or plug. A removable cap completely covers the 

grommet liner and has our patented “flip-top” tab

CHP3 - Star Grommet

2008 Design Contest Winner 

Tired of rummaging under the desk for loose cords 

and plugs? This handy grommet keeps all those 

cords at your fingertips above the surface without 

the need to scour through heaps of cables below. 

It holds up to five cords. Each one of those cords 

is held by a retainer ball which prevents the plug 

from falling through. Each ball has a slit where 

the cable is inserted. Designed to go into a 2 1/2” 

hole cut and a 3” overall diameter. The CHP3 set 

includes a cap, liner, and five balls.

Our popular aluminum brush grommet series 

is now available with a hinged lid for easier 

wire access. Simply lift the aluminum lid to 

access the grommet hole to insert wires and 

pull them through the brush liner before 

closing the top. The dust-blocking brush liner 

across the front of the unit prevents cables 

from falling down through the table when 

not in use by grabbing the wires and keeping

This track system wire manager incorporates individual 

vertebrae-like links into a traditional continuous 

channel. Mounts horizontally behind a desk or 

below the surface. Before the mounting end caps 

are attached, the individual L-shaped brackets can 

slide in and out of the track and interlink to one another. 

Use as many or as few of the brackets as you 

need on a single track, or join additional tracks to extend 

the connection. Brackets can be mounted onto 

the track in two ways, one extending horizontally 

and the other extending below the work surface, 

depending on the job and the space allotted behind 

the work surface. Large enough to run heavy duty 

cabling or multiple wires. End pieces screw into the

2010 Racing Recap – Two Fabulous Finishes, One Not So Hot... 

Chihuahua express 

A wonderful three day event that starts 

and ends daily in Chihuahua, so you sleep 

in the same hotel bed nightly! Plus, in 

1100 miles it has 350 miles of speed 

stages, so good value. 

First day the route goes northwest to 

the logging town of Madera, second day 

due west to the rim of the Copper Canyon, 

third day northeast to the Rio Grande 

River and the border with the USA. 

We qualified first in the Carrera car 

class, and basically, smoked ‘em Day One. 

Unfortunately, the event was marred by a 

racing crash on a speed section that took 

the life of the navigator. 

Day Two was the same. Angelica’s brilliant 

navigating was as good as it gets, 

and we smoked ‘em again. But an awful, 

tragic day. Two cars were street racing 

on the way back, touching side by side at 

150mph+, and that was that. Two were 

killed, including a good friend of mine, 

Nanan Solana. 

The Third Day was, mercifully, 

cancelled. 

I’ve been doing this madness for a 

long, long time. Trust me, you never 

get used to a racing accident that ends 

in a fatality, especially of a good friend. 

Never... 

Pikes Peak Hill Climb 

Second oldest racing event in the USA 

(after the Indy 500) and a classic hill climb: 

12 1/2 miles with a 4800 ft. elevation gain, 

from the start line at 9300 ft. to the summit 

at 14,110 ft., partially paved and partially dirt, 

and 156 challenging turns. And yes, some 

dreadful cliffs... not for the faint of heart! 

Angelica navigated us to Pole Position in 

the Vintage class. We started first of some 

100 cars and I’m glad we did – we had a 

smooth road. A little light rain overnight had 

made the dirt just right. 

When you’re doing it the drive is over in an 

instant and it takes forever. Yes, that feeling. 

We waited for the others in our class. Woo 

hoo! We won, and set a new course record, 

13 minutes, 5 seconds, nearly a full minute 

ahead of the old record. Our 1954 Olds -- 

albeit with 630hp – was faster than a full 

50% of the modern cars! 

But the best was we were awarded 

the Race Director’s Trophy and were duly 

humbled by the award.

Carrera Panamericana 

If Pikes Peak was the high of 2010, 

Carrera was the low. 

This annual 2300 mile, 7-day drive from 

southern to northern Mexico traces largely 

the original road that connected Mexico to 

the USA and to Central America. From 1950 

to 1954 the Mexican government sponsored 

a race to promote the Panamerican Highway. 

In 1988 Eduardo Leon revived it as a 

rally, and here we are. 

After qualifying 9th of 118 cars, our race 

ended before it began. I still don’t believe 

it, but the driveshaft sheared as we were 

leisurely cruising from the hotel to the 

starting line. The race began without us. We 

got towed 200 miles (and $800!) to our 

service truck, they changed the driveshaft in 

a few minutes. But we lost all of Day One. 

Days Two, Three, Four, Five and Seven we 

finished 3rd behind two ringers – eventual 

winner Harri Rovenpera, a former big time 

rally driver from Finland, and second place 

Mexican Michel Jourdain, a former Indy car 

star. We even beat Harri on a speed stage! 

Which leaves Day 6. Rather than embarrass 

myself in print, go to Youtube and enter 

“Trouble on the Road to Aguascalientes”. 

My 12 seconds of fame... enough laughing... 

We ended up 27th overall and 10th in 

class. Not bad, I suppose, for missing all of 

Day One.

Our policy may be unusual but makes good sense to us. 

We want to assure you have the best possible experience 

with us. And if that means bending over backwards in 

customer service, it is our pleasure. 

We pride ourselves in giving clients world class service, 

the best we know how. 

This policy is an outgrowth of an LL Bean one. For years, 

until recently, they offered to take back any item, any time. 

As their biz was largely mail order, it was good insurance to 

reap customer loyalty. 

On top of that – and a polar opposite – we used to have a screw 

supplier who tried to charge us a 20% restocking fee – when 

they sent the wrong size screws! So they lost a client... 

My theory has always been to make dealing with us as easy 

as possible. 

As a mail order company you are unable to see the product 

until you receive it. It may not be exactly what you had in 

mind, so why not make it easy to exchange or returns...

for 1 or 2, depending on how many will fit into our standard box.
