Closer examination of the <strong>Europol</strong> information combined with EMCDDA seizure data (see Figure 4)<br />
and other sources further suggests that amphetamine production and trafficking in Europe can be<br />
thought of as concentrated in geographically distinct areas. The two most important of these broadly<br />
correspond to the north-west criminal hub (centred on the Netherlands and Belgium, but for<br />
amphetamine Denmark and the United Kingdom are also important) and the north-east criminal hub<br />
(although with the caveat that for amphetamine Poland is also strategically important in this latter<br />
geographical area). In addition, significant production, albeit at lower levels, is also found in Germany<br />
and some other central European countries. Lastly, and somewhat distinctly for reasons already noted,<br />
Bulgaria and Turkey are also important sources of captagon production for export outside Europe.<br />
