both implied and explicit notions of honor, coincided with periods of intense religious<br />
revival. The initial observation of this trend in the primary sources guided the remainder<br />
of the study.<br />
The end here is to use this historically rich region to bear out greater truths<br />
regarding Southern cultural history, while simultaneously revealing complexities in the<br />
culture of Edgefield itself. At once this study will place Edgefield amongst the most<br />
historically unique locals in the South Carolina and the nation, but also exhibit<br />
fundamental forces at work in state and Southern regional historical patterns regarding<br />
religion and the broader culture.<br />
