Getting Around and Out of Mumbai
DESTINATION MUMBAI
Mumbai has a suburban rail system that connects the suburbs with the
city and stations in between. The trains provide transport for the hundreds of
thousand of commuters that travel throughout Mumbai everyday. The trains
are fast and cheap but they are extremely overcrowded and are not often used
by expats.
If you have to travel more than 25 kms from one end of the city to the
other, and are willing to brave it, the local train is an option. You can take a
first class ticket and travel in the first class coach marked with green stripes.
For ladies, coaches are available in second class, as well as first class. Please
beware of pickpockets in trains.
