Hello and welcome to April… my favourite month of
the year. Mostly because the scorching heat of
summer is lessening, but the chill of winter has not
arrived, but also because it is my birthday month!
You may have noticed in last month’s edition our
Mercedes Benz test car was supplied by a private
individual instead of Mercedes Benz South Africa, as was the
norm prior to March. Well there is a very good reason for
that, namely Mercedes Benz refuses to supply us with test
cars because they don't want to be associated with a
publication that has the word “naked’ in the name. Quite
pathetic I know, but their choice and they must live and die
by their stupid, childish and idiotic decision. Fortunately the
rest of us live in the free world, where the press have the
right to be heard, so I did make their CEO a promise, and that
would be that every month we would review at least one
Merc, which brings us to the privately supplied test vehicle in
March. So if you own a late model Mercedes and you would
like to see your car featured in our magazine please get in
touch.
In this edition we reveal the magnificent Bentley Mulsanne,
and I must add that we are the FIRST South African motoring
journalists to get behind the Mulsanne’s R6.2 million wheel.
We also drive the Lamborghini Gallardo and take a look at
some of the new small cars available in showrooms, as well
as the brand new BMW 3 Series!

is. Like the rest of us Leon has no former experience in the motor trade, but rather is a consumer and motorist, and buys and sells
things like everyone else, plus he has a really wicked sense of humour. Leon has been our video cameraman for a long, long time, and
his skill in this department are unquestioned. His debut with Naked Motoring, as a writer is this month as he puts the big blerrie bakkie
Nissan Navara through its paces. Wilkommen Herr-Kapitan Rehrl, and yes we do know that Austria is landlocked… but your secret is
safe with us.

If it goes off road and
likes to get dirty then
Poul is the man for the
job.
Don’t hand him a new
BMW X5 and tell him it
is capable off road because not long thereafter
you will be able to see your X5 on
Google Earth bashing up the side of some
mountain.
Poul has been in the safari tourism game for
many, many years and in fact owns and runs
his own tour company, but when the
occasion is right also writes for us.
Part Danish, part Italian and all South
African Poul is our cultural attaché to the
civilised, and more often than not the
uncivilised world.

and a former Captain in
the Austrian Navy, Leon
offers a brand of
reporting as unique and
colourful as he himself
Officially declared clinically insane, Thys moved FROM Johannesburg to Cape Town, and now resides amongst
the Fynbos smoking variety. Oh well, at least he has good roots. He also writes damn well!
An IT expert and all-round nice guy Thys brings a flavour of writing to the table that can only be attributed to the
Air of The Mountain, and not ‘mountain air’ as many would believe. He is also responsible for our website.
We hope he will see the light and return to the civilised world one day, but for now he is our outlet to fast and
sweeping coastal roads. Welcome aboard Thys!
