General InformatIon team USa team USa Staff USa hockey leaderShIp hIStory & reSUltS mark oSIeCkI assistant cOacH Mark Osiecki is serving as an assistant coach on his third U.S. National Junior Team. In 2011, he helped Team USA earn the bronze medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Buffalo and Niagara, N.Y. One year prior, he helped the U.S. capture the gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Regina and Saskatoon, Sask. In addition to his U.S. National Junior Team experience, Osiecki was head coach of the U.S. Junior Select Team that won the 1999 Freedom Challenge in Lake Placid, N.Y. Osiecki is in his third season as head coach of the Ohio State University men’s ice hockey team. Previously, he served six seasons (2004-10) as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin men’s ice hockey team. During his time at Wisconsin, the Badgers won the 2006 NCAA Frozen Four title and advanced to the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four championship game. From 1997-2004, Osiecki was the general manager and head coach of the United States Hockey League’s Green Bay Gamblers. The former Wisconsin defenseman (1987-90) served as an alternate captain for the 1990 NCAA national championship team. He played two seasons in the National Hockey League (1991-93) with the Calgary Flames, Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets and the Minnesota North Stars. He also competed for the United States at the 1992 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic. Osiecki and his wife, Robin, reside in Columbus, Ohio, with their daughter, Emily, and son, Jake. GraNT poTUlNy assistant cOacH Grant Potulny is making his USA Hockey coaching debut as an assistant coach for the 2013 U.S. National Junior Team. Potulny is in his fourth season as an assistant coach for the University of Minnesota men’s ice hockey team. Last season he helped the Golden Gophers reach the 2012 NCAA Frozen Four. Potulny played four seasons at the University of Minnesota, where he served in a leadership role in each of his final three campaigns. As an alternate captain in 2002, he scored the game-winning goal in the NCAA Frozen Four championship game at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. He then captained the team for his last two seasons, leading the Gophers to the 2003 NCAA Frozen Four national championship. Potulny played professionally from 2003-09, skating for five American Hockey League teams (Binghamton Senators, Hershey Bears, Springfield Falcons, San Antonio Rampage, Norfolk Admirals). He also had a brief stint in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Potulny and his wife, Melissa, have three children, Jack, Owen and Charlotte, and reside in Maple Grove, Minn. David Lassonde is serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Junior Team for the first time. His previous USA Hockey involvement includes tutoring young netminders through the USA Hockey Warren Strelow National Goaltending Mentor Program. He was an assistant coach for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team at the 2005 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Slovakia. Additionally, he has coached at a variety of district and national festivals. Lassonde is in his 25th season as an NCAA Division I men’s assistant coach including stops at Denver; (2011-present); the University of New Hampshire (1988-91/1997-2011); the University of Wisconsin (1991-94); and Miami University (1994- 97). In 2007, Lassonde was honored with the Terry Flanagan Award, which is given by the American Hockey Coaches Association to an assistant coach who has demonstrated a superior body of work throughout his career. A fourth-year assistant coach for Yale University’s men’s ice hockey team, Muse has helped the Bulldogs win an ECAC Hockey regular season and tournament title and reach a pair of NCAA Tournaments. Prior to joining Yale, Muse was a men’s collegiate assistant coach at Sacred Heart University (2008-09) and Williams (Mass.) College (2007-08). Muse has also coached at the Massachusetts Hockey Satellite Training Program and at USA Hockey’s Select 14 Development Camp (2006-2008) and Select 16 Camp (2009, 2010). Muse earned a B.A. in criminal justice in 2005 at Stonehill College, where he served as an alternate captain in 2004-05. Muse and his wife, Maureen, reside in Clinton, Conn. dr. phIl JohNSoN team dOctOr Dr. Phil Johnson is serving as the team physician for the U.S. National Junior Team for the fourth consecutive year, having taken on the role for the gold medal-winning U.S. National Junior Team at the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Regina and Saskatoon, Sask., and the bronze medal-winning squad at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship in Niagara and Buffalo, N.Y. Also, he has worked with various U.S. Under-17, Under-18 and junior teams since 2000, and served as a volunteer physician for the U.S. Olympic Committee in 1999. Johnson graduated from the University of North Dakota with both a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and a doctorate of medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Michigan State University, followed by a sport medicine fellowship at the University of Western Ontario. Currently, he is an orthopedic surgeon at the Orthopedic Associates of Fargo and the Institute for Special Surgery of Fargo. Johnson has two daughters and resides in Fargo, N.D. Stan Wong is serving as the athletic trainer for the U.S. National Junior Team at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship for the 11th consecutive year. He has previously served as an athletic trainer for the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 U.S. Men’s National Teams, along with the 2006 and 2010 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Teams. In addition, Wong worked with Team USA at the 2001, 2007 and 2011 Deutschland Cups. Wong was the athletic trainer for both the Washington Capitals (1986-99) and the Florida Panthers (1999-2002) of the National Hockey League and, in 1991 and 1999, was named the athletic trainer for the NHL All-Star Game. In addition to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance with Washington during the 1997-98 season, Wong also served as an athletic trainer at Super Bowl XV for the Philadelphia Eagles and for the United States Football League’s Boston Breakers (1983-85).
