1960s<br />

Robert E. Tre<strong>at</strong>, Manchester Center,<br />

VT, is partially retired and spending<br />

time with his children and eight<br />

Gregory J. Melkonian, MD,<br />

Hopkin<strong>to</strong>n, NH, is a Pedi<strong>at</strong>ric<br />

Orthopedist <strong>at</strong> Children’s Hospital<br />

Bos<strong>to</strong>n and on the teaching faculty<br />

<strong>at</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>at</strong> Harvard<br />

1980s<br />

David N. Phalen, Australia, is the<br />

direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>at</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Sydney,<br />

Animal Hospital.<br />

Donald P. Th ompson, Lake Elmore,<br />

VT, has completed the advanced level<br />

<strong>of</strong> veterinary acupuncture certifi c<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

and has been named a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the<br />

American Academy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Veterinary</strong><br />

Acupuncture. Th ompson is the fi rst<br />

<strong>to</strong> complete this advanced level <strong>of</strong><br />

certifi c<strong>at</strong>ion in New England and the<br />

14th in the United St<strong>at</strong>es. Th ompson<br />

owns the Aesculapian <strong>Veterinary</strong><br />

Service in Morrisville, VT.<br />

Lisa C. Freeman, Manh<strong>at</strong>tan, KS,<br />

has been selected as Vice President<br />

for Research and Gradu<strong>at</strong>e Studies<br />

<strong>at</strong> Northern Illinois University. She<br />

currently serves as Associ<strong>at</strong>e Vice<br />

President for Innov<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>at</strong> the Ol<strong>at</strong>he<br />

Innov<strong>at</strong>ion Campus <strong>at</strong> Kansas St<strong>at</strong>e<br />

University and will begin <strong>at</strong> NIU on<br />

July 1.<br />

Richard S. Goldstein, New Rochelle,<br />

NY, is appearing on the weekly show<br />

“Housec<strong>at</strong> Housecall” airing on<br />

Animal Planet.<br />

Class <strong>of</strong> 1995 - Reunion Year<br />

Jorge L. Colon, Lexing<strong>to</strong>n, KY,<br />

married Maggie Th ompson in<br />

Oc<strong>to</strong>ber in Virgin Gorda, British<br />

Virgin Islands. Together they oper<strong>at</strong>e<br />

Equine Reproductive <strong>Veterinary</strong><br />

Services in Lexing<strong>to</strong>n, KY, an embryo<br />

transfer and breeding management<br />

service th<strong>at</strong> is part <strong>of</strong> his reproductive<br />

ambula<strong>to</strong>ry practice. His daughter,<br />

Sydney, turned 8 in November and<br />

the three <strong>of</strong> them hope <strong>to</strong> make it <strong>to</strong><br />

Ithaca for his 15th Reunion in 2010.<br />

Class <strong>of</strong> 1997<br />

C<strong>at</strong>herine G. Stiner, Bloomfi eld, NY,<br />

started her own small animal hospital<br />

(Bloomfi eld Animal Hospital) in the<br />

summer <strong>of</strong> 2003, which she indic<strong>at</strong>es<br />

is “very busy and very rewarding.”<br />

She has a small farm in the area<br />

but recently became “horseless (by<br />

choice!)” for fi rst time in 31 years.<br />

Class <strong>of</strong> 1998<br />

Gita P. (Kumar) Dittmar, Oman, and<br />

her husband recently moved <strong>to</strong> the<br />

Middle East, Musc<strong>at</strong>, Oman, <strong>to</strong> take<br />

a hi<strong>at</strong>us from work and be a full time<br />

mom <strong>to</strong> their 2-year-old daughter. Her<br />

husband is pursuing “a very interesting<br />

position in his fi eld <strong>of</strong> environmental<br />

engineering.” She is confi dent th<strong>at</strong><br />

she will be able <strong>to</strong> re-enter the<br />

workforce in a couple <strong>of</strong> years once<br />

their daughter is in kindergarten. In<br />

the meantime, they are enjoying the<br />

clim<strong>at</strong>e and the beaches, and she has<br />

met some <strong>of</strong> the local veterinarians in<br />

the area and has learned a bit about the<br />

human and animal healthcare issues<br />

the region faces, which she indic<strong>at</strong>es<br />

“are quite interesting.” If anyone from<br />

her class happens <strong>to</strong> come <strong>to</strong> the area,<br />

please do look her up!<br />

Class <strong>of</strong> 1999<br />

Deirdre E. Brandes, Rancho Santa Fe,<br />

CA, says, “I juggled body parts in the<br />

vet school talent show, and now I’m<br />

juggling practice ownership and family<br />

(two kids) and am having a ball.”<br />

Class <strong>of</strong> 2002<br />

2000s<br />

Jennifer G. Barrett, Leesburg, VA,<br />

is an assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> surgery<br />

<strong>at</strong> Virginia Tech’s Marion DuPont<br />

Scott Equine Medical Center. Her<br />

Virginia Tech Engineering Team won a<br />

$300,000 N<strong>at</strong>ional Science Found<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

grant <strong>to</strong> study knee ligament sprains <strong>at</strong><br />

the micro-mechanical level.<br />

Petra Doyle, Billeria, MA, and<br />

husband, Frank, welcomed their<br />

second son on May 22. He joins his<br />

2-1/2-year-old brother.<br />

Kristen K. Reyher, Canada, married<br />

Jon<strong>at</strong>han Capon <strong>of</strong> Surrey, England,<br />

in Holy Trinity Church, Redhill, on<br />

August 28, 2009. She is an assistant<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>at</strong> the Atlantic <strong>Veterinary</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> in Prince Edward Island,<br />

Canada, and is working <strong>to</strong>ward a PhD<br />

in Epidemiology.<br />

Kerry S. Bailey, Saddle River, NJ,<br />

has been appointed a (neurology)<br />

Dr. Ann L. Bilderback, New York,<br />

NY, and Dr. Edward MacKillop,<br />

Pittsburgh, PA, have been appointed as<br />

(neurology) diplom<strong>at</strong>es <strong>of</strong> the ACVIM.<br />

Dr. Michael A. Kiselow, Campbell,<br />

CA, has also been appointed as an<br />
