2. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Holy</strong> Spiiit in Relation to <strong>the</strong> Glorification <strong>of</strong> Christ.<br />
From <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holy</strong> <strong>Spirit</strong> had part in <strong>the</strong> resurrection <strong>of</strong> Christ it may be assumed that He also had part in <strong>the</strong><br />
glorification <strong>of</strong> Christ. On this subject, however, <strong>the</strong> Scriptures are silent. As Kuyper says, “<strong>The</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holy</strong> <strong>Spirit</strong> in<br />
<strong>the</strong> exaltation <strong>of</strong> Christ is not so easily defined. <strong>The</strong> Scripture never speaks <strong>of</strong> it in connection with His ascension, His sitting<br />
at <strong>the</strong> right hand <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r, nor with <strong>the</strong> Lord’s second coming.”17 From <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holy</strong> <strong>Spirit</strong> we may assume<br />
that He would be related to <strong>the</strong> blessed estate <strong>of</strong> our Savior. From His work in us, we would assume a most intimate relation<br />
between <strong>the</strong> glorified Savior and <strong>the</strong> indwelling <strong>Spirit</strong>. Of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Spirit</strong> we learn not only <strong>of</strong> His sufferings and death, but we are<br />
also taught <strong>the</strong> power <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> resurrection <strong>of</strong> Christ and <strong>the</strong> riches <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> glory <strong>of</strong> His grace. Even as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holy</strong> <strong>Spirit</strong> was<br />
infinitely faithful in every ministry to Christ, so in <strong>the</strong> experience <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Christian whe<strong>the</strong>r in <strong>the</strong> flesh or in glory <strong>the</strong><br />
ministrations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Spirit</strong> are infinitely wonderful.<br />

<strong>The</strong> difference between Christian <strong>the</strong>ologians and Christian laymen is only a difference in degree; one class blends itself<br />
with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r; <strong>the</strong>re are in Christianity no exoteric and esoteric systems. Every reflecting laymen acquires at <strong>the</strong> present day<br />
some <strong>the</strong>ological education. <strong>The</strong> commentaries on <strong>the</strong> Bible, <strong>the</strong> systematic instruction in <strong>the</strong> Catechism, <strong>the</strong> popular<br />
histories <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church constitute <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> his <strong>the</strong>ological course. Unless he have some insight into <strong>the</strong> faith which he<br />
adopts, <strong>the</strong>n is he blind in his faith.-Biblio<strong>the</strong>ca Sacra, February, 1844.<br />
