Music and Design
Music practice rooms are available for student use, including
the Una Porter Room, Junior Common Room and Chapel. Grand
pianos in the Dining Hall and Junior Common Room, and the Pipe
Organ in the Chapel are also available for student use.
e Tower Studio is an open and productive space for students to
design and create. It is located at the top of the Tower and has
windows facing all directions, providing inspirational views.
e Studio has been used to construct architectural models, cut
profiles, make sets and other production models, as well as for
sculpture, resin casting, fashion design, felting, drawing, book
binding and spray painting.
Information Technology
IT and the Internet are essential and the College has invested
heavily in this area. Every student room has high speed Internet
connection, which also gives students access to the internal College
network and the Intranet.
e Intranet, an internal website, is a central source for
information and news about what is happening in the College.
Continuously updated, it contains photos, videos, links and
discussion forums. It also handles many administrative tasks,
including IT and maintenance logs and early or late meal orders.
e computer lab supports various multimedia activities, including
desktop publishing and image/photo and video editing. It also
provides various soware packages, including Office, Photoshop,
Publisher and Premiere. ere are also two network printers,
photocopying and fax facilities, and a data projector available.
Students can access the computer lab at all times.
Recreation
e Nicholas Laboratory was built in 1930 as a science
laboratory. Later renovated, it now serves as a recreational complex
for students. e television room contains couches, a plasma
television, Pay-TV and a DVD/VCR player. e student run tuck
shop named ‘Emporium’ opens twice a night and stocks a range of
confectionary and snacks. e party room contains a dance floor,
light and sound system, and bar and when a party is not being held
is used as a games room and houses table tennis and darts for
general use. Adjoining the party room is a courtyard with tables, a
barbeque and gas heaters.
As of early 2010, the student centre now contains a brand new
Gymnasium for student use 24 hours day. ere is varied
equipment, including treadmill, rowing machines, free weights,
sound system and a plasma television.
