Nangarhar province has a large number of facilities, and the survey covered 7 hospitals.
Actually, two facilities proved to be health centers without beds, and could not be considered
as hospitals. Jalalabad has three hospitals for a total of 768 beds, and the General Hospital of
Public Health is one of the largest in the country.
In terms of total number of beds, Nangarhar province is the second best served in the country,
with a ratio of one bed for 1,300 population. However, the beds are not evenly distributed in
the province, and some densely populated districts do not have access to hospital care (Sukh
Rod, Muhmand Dara, Bati Kot), whereas in the Jalalabad district, the bed density is 1 for 240
inhabitants.
