Week Two: Choose Whole Grains<br />
Why yes, this is the "<strong>Sugar</strong>" <strong>Detox</strong>! But because your body processes white flours in the same<br />
way as refined sugar, it causes all the same insulin fluctuations as white sugar does inside<br />
your body.<br />
Whole wheat products include all three parts of the wheat berry (the bran, the germ,<br />
and the endosperm). Eating these three components together benefits digestion as<br />
well as nutrient absorption. Here are some quick facts on whole grain:<br />
• <strong>Naturally</strong> has more fiber<br />
• Because it has more fiber, it helps with digestion and leaves you fuller longer.<br />
• Contains more vitamin B6, vitamin E, magnesium, folic acid, copper, zinc, and<br />
manganese.<br />
• White flours and grains are stripped of nutrients leaving you eating empty<br />
calories and not supplying your body with the nutrients it needs.<br />
• White flours and grains are digested much in the same ways as white sugars,<br />
using up your vitamin B6 stores.<br />
• Refined grains increase the insulin response within the body, causing the<br />
pancreas to send out insulin to deal with the increasing amount of sugar in the<br />
blood.<br />
