Teaching
- Professor Ruggeri has conducted regular teaching activities since 1984, including Courses
for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and masters degree. She has held Seminars and
Courses in many different Institutions in Italy and abroad.
Stages
- From April 1985 till March 1986 she has been visiting scientist at the Department of
Pharmacology and at the Department of Histology and Neurobiology at Karolinska Institutet,
Stockholm, Sweden.
- She has done several stages at the Institute of Psychiatry, University of San Francisco, at the
Institute for Epidemiology and Behavioural Medicine, Berkley, California and at the Institute of
Psychiatry, King’s College.
- Appointed as “Honorary Academic Visitor” at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings’ College,
University of London, from April 2004 to March 2007.
- She is currently collaborating with various research groups around the world.
Main Research Interests
- Neurobiology (1984-1988)
- Epidemiological and social psychiatry (1988-present):
- mental health service evaluation,
- assessment of outcome for psychiatric disorders with particular reference to
disability, needs for care, quality of life, service satisfaction, family burden
- assessment of effectiveness of psychosocial interventions
- identification of the role of biological factors in determining the clinical presentation
and the outcome of psychosis, with particular reference to genetics
Clinical Activities
- Professor Ruggeri participates in the clinical activities which take place at the Section of
Psychiatry of the University of Verona and at the South-Verona Community-based Mental
Health Service. In particular, she is responsible of the Liaison Psychiatry Team and collaborates
in the Outpatient Department which provides care to patients with anxiety and depressive
disorders
Membership of Professional Bodies
- Past-President of the Italian Society of Psychiatric Epidemiology (SIEP; 1995-1999 as
Treasurer; 1999-2003 as Vice-President; 2003- as President)
- Chairperson of the European Network for Mental Health Service Evaluation ( ENMESH).
