event in Oklahoma City, defeating Dave Stockton and<br />

the summer season when he was operated on for bone<br />
spurs at the end of his collar bone and right rotator cuff.<br />
Did not play any events from mid-June until mid-<br />
September. 1998: T2 at the MasterCard Championship.<br />
1997: Despite a hip injury, earned his sixth Champions<br />
Tour title at the year's first full-field event, a four-stroke<br />
win over David Graham at the Royal Caribbean Classic.<br />
1996: Captured first title in three years at the inaugural<br />
Boone Valley Classic. Was seemingly out of contention on<br />
the final day after a quadruple bogey on the second hole<br />
and trailed by six strokes on the front nine. Battled his way<br />
back with six birdies over the final 14 holes, including one<br />
at the 18th that forced a playoff with Hale Irwin. Won with<br />
a par on the first playoff hole and earned the largest check<br />
of his professional career: $180,000. 1993: Won the Las<br />
Vegas Senior Classic thanks to a second-round 63, his lowest<br />
score of the year, to hold off Mike Hill by one stroke.<br />
1992: Posted back-to-back victories at the Southwestern<br />
Bell Classic and Kroger Senior Classic…Became the first<br />
of only two Champions Tour players to win back-to-back<br />
events with sub-200 scores. Never looked back after firing<br />
an 8-under-par 62 in the opening round of the<br />
Southwestern Bell event. In Kansas City, equaled a then-<br />
Champions Tour numerical record with a 17-under-par 193<br />
total, and also tied the largest 54-hole victory margin ever<br />
on the Champions Tour (nine strokes). One week later,<br />
defeated good fried J.C. Snead on the second hole of a<br />
playoff to win the Kroger event after both had posted 15under<br />
198 totals…Matched his <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> career victory<br />
total with a late-summer triumph at the First of America<br />
Classic.<br />
OTHER CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:<br />
Collected more than $1 million in official earnings on the<br />
<strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> from 1968-1985 and was exempt for 14 of<br />
those 17 years…First of his three <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> wins came at<br />
the 1970 Houston Champions International, where he<br />
defeated Bruce Crampton in a playoff…Best year was<br />
1980, when he earned more than $100,000 for the only<br />
time in his <strong>TOUR</strong> career…A runner-up, with Jack Newton,<br />
