As he advanced toward <strong>the</strong> seated Spaniard, he heard<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r footstep, keeping time with his. From <strong>the</strong><br />

opposite door, a salver in hand, <strong>the</strong> servant was likewise<br />

advancing.<br />
