Excited, I began planning my ascent.<br />
Once on my way though,<br />
The maps always led to unmarked cliffs,<br />
Gaping crevasses.<br />
Routes frequently doubled back.<br />
Continuing the effort,<br />
I eventually lost my crampons<br />
And pitons<br />
And line.<br />
Now my pack is lighter<br />
And I don’t look much at the maps.<br />
A scouring wind sings of deep peace.<br />
