This day is considered so auspicious that Bhishma, who was a hero, of the Mahaabhaarata, chose to die after this day, even though he lay on a bed of arrows. Bhishma had a boon, by which he could choose his time of death. During January, it is very cold. Sesame seeds have a warmth giving quality and it makes Spiritual practices easy. That is the reason why people distribute ‘til laddus’ at this festival. Since the Sun begins its Northward Revolution, during this time, the direction of the wind changes. This is the reason, why it is traditional to fly kites on this day. There is something very beautiful about flying kites. You remain on the ground, but the kite in your hand soars towards the heavens. Read stories of great personalities and aspire to become like them. This is what I call reaching for the stars. People who dreamt about changing the world, did! I have told you the story of Abdul Kalam, the Indian President. He came from a modest home in a small village. Went on to become, a great Scientist and the President of India. There are many other success stories. The way to achieve success, is to believe in oneself and ones dream, and then systematically work towards ones goal. Do you know what that means? Well, if you want to become a doctor, you will have to study to become one. You can dream all you like, but unless, you put in your effort, your dream will always remain a dream. What do you want to become in your life? Think about it, work hard, do your best, pray and leave it to the Lord! I am sure that your dreams will come true.
