said to produce lots of perspirati<strong>on</strong>, leading to the reducti<strong>on</strong> of fever. Kernel powder with sugar<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> goat milk gives good result results in liver disorder [25]. Decocti<strong>on</strong> of roasted kernels was<br />

used in asthama. Children unable to digest mother’s milk were given the extract of the kernel<br />

or its powder al<strong>on</strong>g with ginger, salt <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> h<strong>on</strong>ey to get good stomachic effect. Paste prepared<br />

from kernel gives relief from boils <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> other such swellings.<br />

A cake made of 30 grains of powdered kernels, fried in ghee taken twice a day is a<br />

valuable remedy in cases of acute orchitis, ovaritis <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> scrofula. Root [6, 15, 20, 24, 26] in La<br />

Reuni<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Madagascar, the roots are c<strong>on</strong>sidered febrifuge <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> anthelmintic, they are much<br />

used as an astringent in leucorrhoea <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> blennorrhagia. In Guinea, a decocti<strong>on</strong> of the root is<br />

prescribed in fever. The root-bark is good for tumours <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> for removing the placenta after child<br />

birth [10]. Bark of root possesses number of properties like febrifuge,intestinal<br />

worms,amenorrhoea, cough, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> anthelmintic etc. In Jamaica, it is used as rubifacient <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> as a<br />

local applicati<strong>on</strong> for sores. Flowers are used in treating ascites <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> fruits in treating urinary<br />

disorder, leucorrhoea, piles <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> wounds.<br />

Leaves <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> twigs are traditi<strong>on</strong>ally used for the treatment of tumors, inflammati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

liver disorder. They have also been applied for treatment of toothache. Leaves <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> juices have<br />

been used traditi<strong>on</strong>ally for elephantiasis <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> smallpox.<br />

Ethnoveterinary Usage<br />

The seeds, leaves <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> roots are used for the treatment of tachycardia, bradycardia,<br />

tuberculosis, tympanitis, pain in the abdomen, fever, cold <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> cough <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> liver fluke in<br />

ruminants [23].<br />

Whole plant of <strong>Caesalpinia</strong> b<strong>on</strong>ducella c<strong>on</strong>tain all major chemical c<strong>on</strong>stituents such as<br />
