echnology won’t wait for you in this metadigital age. Two years ago,
Tthe thought of Apple taking a bite out of the mobile market was unimaginable.
Now iPhone owners are a breed of their own. The indispensible
Walkman and mixtape have evolved into the all-in-one iPhone and MP3
playlist—but still, mixtapeology is a science and an art untouchable by the
iTunes Genius. Or is it? Face it: Last.fm and Pandora know what you like
better than you do.
The Melisma staff has played its part in embracing new technology by
abandoning email chains in the editing process for real-time updating
Google Documents. Our managing editor exists ve hours in the future
[in London], but Michelle can simultaneously make edits on articles that
we’re working on in Medford. Imagine where you’ll nd Melisma when the
Singularity nds you.
So, it’s safe to say that Melisma has undergone a Kafkian metamorphosis—except
prettier —since its inception ve years ago. And as a graduating
senior, I’d like to think of the same of myself, but every moment, no
matter how you slice it, is in ux. You can capture life at a shutter speed of
1/4000, but still, it’s hardly a moment frozen in time. I am always changing.
Life after graduation is scary, and every moment bears the weight of
the unknown. However, we’re constantly re-armed so that we’re better
equipped to face a new day. Taking that next step is always frightening,
and yet we’re always ready. Melisma was once and is still referred to as
the Tufts music zine, but it’s expanded to photo spreads, lm reviews and
features about blogs. You’ll nd us on MySpace, but no, you can’t follow
us on Twitter. That’s just where we draw the line…for now.
