10 Bardala Background The original residents of Bardala, a village established in the Ottoman era, relied on rain-fed agriculture and animal husbandry for their livelihoods. During the British Mandate, the villagers drilled a well in the area, known as the Bardala well, which greatly enhanced the capabilities of local farmers. During the 1967 War, the Israeli military forcibly transferred Palestinians from nearby villages into Bardala, as well as to Jordan and Tubas.
Main problems facing the community Due to water restrictions and the high price of agricultural inputs, Bardala residents are not able to utilize all of their agricultural land, the majority of which is located in Area C. This increases the possibility that their land will be confiscated by Israeli authorities. Without alternative options, residents are obligated to purchase piped water from the Israeli water company, Mekorot, which is subject to consumption quotas.
