Celebration of Christmas
Our ‘Celebration of Christmas’, held on Tuesday 18 December, was certainly that.
Students from all years took part in a range of traditional and modern music and
drama which helped get everyone in the festive spirit. The Choir sang four carols
during which we heard several solo performances. A group of Year 7 students
sang a selection of songs they have been learning in their music lessons this
term. Miss Rowlands Drama group gave us a flavour of Christmas from around
the world including America, Italy and England. Some of the more modern songs
were performed by the Staff Band with Frazer Griffin on vocals, and by four soloists
singing favourites from Polar Express, Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson.
A huge well done to all and thank you for kick starting our Christmas.
Anti-bullying Workshops for Year 7
The Unique Voice Team
once again visited the
Academy to work with
Year 7. After their
performance in the
theatre they then ran
workshops with the
students focusing on antibullying
using the ‘Triple R’
framework: Recognise;
Report; Resolve.
Sixth Form Showcase
This year’s Winter Dance Showcase surpassed all
previous showcases, it was bigger, brighter and so
much better!
The shows duration was just over an hour, but each
dance was tightly wrapped together, showing grace,
precision and power with each type of dance nailed.
Michelle Sergeant, Head of Dance worked tirelessly
and invited all the Oasis partner schools (Bankleaze,
Brisghtstowe, New Oak, & Connaught) to watch the
matinee performance with a half hour dance lesson
from the 6 th Form Students. The pupils learnt ‘The
Wobble’ with a dance off to finish. Faye Morgan of
Oasis Connaught Primary school stated “Our children
here at Connaught had a great time and were
'amazed' by the whole event”.
Our Media Technician, Dan Mullender rigged all
lights for the show and designed a whole light show
to accompany the dances. Charlie Bedford, Dance
Teacher stated “It was the cherry on top. Seeing a
burlesque dance or a waacking piece with flashing
coloured lights and smoke everywhere added to the
whole experience. This is where we wanted to take
Oasis Dance Academy, and I am lucky to see the
finished product”. Each Year 13 has shown
tremendous progress since beginning the course and
are beginning to show advanced technique in all
types of dancing. Lauren Watkins was described as
the most improved student in the Year 12 dance
group.
Phil Cocks, Head of Sixth Form stated “I was proud to
witness such great performances seeing where the
students have come from and show what they’re
capable of proves they are destined for great things.
Lets’ see where they go”.
