Financial Report – <strong>2006</strong> | <strong>2007</strong><br />
The National Advisory Council on Innovation was allocated R8 228 million to perform its functions during the <strong>2006</strong>/<strong>2007</strong> financial<br />
year. This allocation was later adjusted to R10 193 million, 99.3% of which was utilised. As in previous financial years, the NACI<br />
budget is administered by the Department of Science and Technology, and expenditure is accounted for in the various financial<br />
systems of the Department.<br />
NACI’s expenditure during <strong>2006</strong>/<strong>2007</strong>, classified in terms of remuneration of employees, research projects and other operational<br />
expenses incurred in developing advice, was as follows:<br />

The category of evidence-based research studies reflects<br />
payments to consultants for performing research, editing<br />
reports and reviewing projects. The category of advice<br />
development reflects expenditure on the facilitation of<br />
advice development or capacity building towards advice<br />
development, including the sub-items of advertising and<br />
marketing, communication, catering, courier services,<br />
computer hardware, stationery, printing, domestic and<br />
international travel, subsistence, training and staff development.<br />
Approximately 7% of total expenditure was for Council<br />
honoraria (for preparation and meeting attendance).
