The pigs, cont.
Napoleon is the villain in Animal Farm. Napoleon, the pig, is really the central character on the
farm. He is obviously a metaphor for Stalin. (Comrade) Napoleon perhaps also represents the
human frailties of any revolution.
Squealer is first described as a manipulator and persuader. Squealer is also thought by some to
represent Goebbels, who was the minister of propaganda for Germany, and also the Russian
newspaper Pravda. When Squealer masks an evil intention of the pigs, their plans can be carried
out with little resistance.
