FEATURE STORY
STM Parish Pastoral Council election next weekend
During all Masses next weekend, May 21-22, a parish-wide election will be held to fill an upcoming vacancy on the St.
Thomas More Parish Pastoral Council. Running for this position are Robin Green and David Shanks nominated from
the Formation Commission. All parishioners aged 18 and over who are members of households registered in the parish
are eligible to vote.
Robin Green has been a parishioner for seven years. She and her husband Michael have three
children, Breton, Abigail and Sinclair, all students at STM School. Robin has a general studies
bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University. Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom, she was
a human resources manager and an operations manager for ten years in the healthcare field. Robin’s
hobbies and interests are gardening, home renovating, and church and school activities.
Robin is a formation commissioner, a Vacation Bible School volunteer, a festival booth co-chair
and volunteers at the school.
“Over the past seven years, my family and I have received innumerable blessings as members of
STM Parish. I have learned a tremendous amount from the strength and faith of my fellow
parishioners and from the parish as a whole. There is an amazing commitment to serve God through charity, prayer, and
fellowship. When asked to participate in the Formation Commission, I looked on it as an opportunity to further contribute
to the parish, and more importantly, grow in my faith. Serving as a member of the Pastoral Council would grant me
the opportunity to return some of the blessings which I have received as a member of this great parish.”
David Shanks has been a parishioner for 32 years. He and his wife Maria have three grown
children, Chantal, Thais and Myra, and six grandchildren. David is a graduate of Spencer Business
College. He attended Indiana University and Tulane and is a retired computer operations supervisor
with the Louisiana Department of Revenue. He has also retired from the U.S Army as a Master
Sergeant. David was an instructor at four business colleges in New Orleans and five business
colleges in Baton Rouge. He was also an instructor for the active duty and reserves while serving in
the Army. He has been an instructor at eight different Army schools. His interest is focused on
religion and his hobby is reading novels.
David is a formation commissioner, has been a Sunday school teacher for three years, a Vacation
Bible School teacher for two years and a teacher with the Parish School of Religion for one year. He is also a lector and a
member of the Legion of Mary.
"I would like to serve on the Pastoral Council to help the parish face any challenges it may experience and to provide
for the continued success of the parish for our parishioners.”

chicken dinner fundraiser on

students put on a dramatic presentation depicting the Passion of Christ:
the trial, suffering and death of Jesus Christ. The Passion Play was
presented to the entire school and parents.

June 10 at 6 p.m. in the activity
center. We will be serving chicken in
wine and mushroom sauce, rice pilaf,
green beans, and peach cobbler for
dessert. The cost is $17. Sign up at

dinner theater presentation and
some singing.

year and will be making plans for
activities for next year. We would

Sincere condolences are extended
to the family of Mitchell Templet,
Jr. who died on April 29. He is
survived by three children, Michelle
T. Dearie and husband Dennis;
Patrick Templet and Francis Templet
and fiancée Heidi Hartley; and a
granddaughter.
The parish extends its sympathy
to Paul Creswell and his family on
the April 28 death of his wife, Ruby
Mayfield Creswell. The Creswells
were a founding family of STM
Parish and generous benefactors to
the church and school.

Join us for a family
friendly mission experience
along Bayou
Lafourche. Spend five
days at St. Philomena Catholic
church, living the gospel through
prayer, service and evangelization.
This is a great mission experience
filled with mission work, leadership
activities, evenings of prayer and
reflection, fellowship, and fun! Registration

and in the church office.
Summer Softball starts in June
(open to rising 9th graders to graduating
seniors) . Games on Monday
nights at 6:30 p.m. Registration is
