Stanley Hammack, chief executive
officer of USA Hospitals and vice president
for the University of South Alabama Health
System, was awarded the Gold Medal of
Excellence by the Alabama Hospital Association.
In addition, two local hospital leaders
were re-elected to their positions on the
association’s board of trustees. Elizabeth
Anderson, administrator of the University of
South Alabama Medical Center, was elected
to return as the board member representing
hospitals in southwest Alabama. Clark
Christianson, president and CEO of
Providence Hospital, was also re-elected to
serve as an at-large board member.

Gillespie, professor and
chair of the University of
South Alabama department
of pharmacology, was elected
to chair the American
Thoracic Society’s assembly
