Welcome to Our Revolution

I've always thought that Teneen's mural of soldiers
facing a king, a queen and a bishop best sums up the
condition of our revolution, in which none of us is
leader but all of us are soldiers in battle.
Do you think that when you let go of your self, you
become less of a person?
Welcome to our revolution, where no-one is a god and
no-one follower, no superiors and no subordinates.

When we were in Wing 1B, Fawzi told me that he and
I were soldiers, not officers, and that the enemy was
the officers, whom no soldiers wanted to fight for.

Do you think that when you relinquish your dreams of
leadership and greatness, you’d be lost?
We weren’t leaders and we never dreamed of being
leaders; only the defeated among us chased after that.
They made their deals and prostrated themselves. They
didn't believe it was a revolution. Their defeatism was
stronger than their faith. They chased after illusory
schemes that would transform them into 'leaders of
the struggle' and 'front lines of the vanguard'. Those
who sought advancement fell, and those who stood
fast believed in victory and in the revolution.
Welcome to our revolution.
It's the same perpetual bewilderment between faith
and unbelief, action and inertia, perseverance and
despair; as always, victory will come only to the
believers, to the dreamers, to those willing to bare their
breast to the fire, not to die but to prevail with their
bodies and remain steadfast.
Welcome to our revolution.
Its soldiers are not seen, only the boasters, the liars, the
pimps who drag it to the highest bidder. The soldiers
bide their time, waiting to reclaim it from its enemies
and its opportunists.
