invisible worlds<br />
“There are millions and millions of worlds that we can see;<br />
but much greater is the number of those that are beyond the reach<br />
of telescopes, and a great many of them do not belong to our<br />
objective plane of existence. Although as invisible as if they were<br />
situated at an immeasurable distance from our Solar System, they<br />
coexist with us, near us, within our own world, and are as objective<br />
and material to their respective inhabitants as our world is to<br />
us. But the relationship between these worlds and ours is not like<br />
that of the series of oval boxes contained one inside the other, in<br />
the style of certain Chinese toys; each world is subject to its own<br />
laws and special conditions, without having direct relationship<br />
with our sphere.<br />
The inhabitants of these worlds, as we have already said, can,<br />
without our knowing or feeling it—be passing through us or at our<br />
sides, as in an open space; their dwelling places interpenetrate with<br />
ours without disturbance to our vision, because we still do not have<br />
