The first time I prayed
It was a Friday night - I was eight years of age, if I’m correct. My mum tucked me into bed and
gave me a kiss goodnight. I suddenly remembered something, jumped out of bed and got on
my knees to pray. My mum asked me what I was doing, so I described a dream I had the night
before.
It was a strange dream. I was in my hometown in Ireland. No one was around, no people,
no traffic, no birds, no anything. It was completely silent and grey. The clouds were covering
the city’s sky. It felt like a silent movie, not like real life. I remember a church attracting my
attention, I don’t know why, but I felt intrigued to go in and see what was going on. It’s not as if
I hadn’t been in a church before, so the need to go in and see it was confusing.
As I got to the church the big back doors began to open, so I walked in, slowly. I stared down
the hallway and noticed a few kids sitting down. As I walked on, I realised that all the kids of
Galway were sitting in a crowded circle around someone, but I couldn’t tell who it was, until I got
closer . . . It was Jesus.
There was a beam of light around Jesus. He noticed me walk in and suggested to come to him
with is hand. There was still no sound. As I got closer, the children formed a line for me to go
through. I sat next to Jesus and he began to talk to me, but it was still silent. I could see his lips
moving but heard no sound. All of a sudden I heard him say “you must pray for, correction, pray
with me tomorrow night.” Then I woke up.
When I had finished describing my dream, my mum laughed hysterically. I was confused at her
reaction. She explained that she had a similar dream the
same night. In her dream all the parents were looking
for their children, in Galway. She felt the same urge
to go to the church. As she approached she saw
children and so ran inside. She saw all the children
of Galway in the church, surrounding Jesus and
sitting beside him was me.
This really freaked me out. Was it fate? Was it
a sign? Was it just a coincidence?
I didn’t know, I just knew that I needed to
pray.
