Love from Jim”, The Royal Engineers. Might this have<br />

been Jim Burns who spent the entire war serving under<br />

his trade as a Shoeing Smith. If so, Jim was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Joseph Burns, blacksmith at Whigstreet. They all lived<br />

just a few hundred yards along the road from each<br />

other.
