For patent reasons, however, the use of this product is not allowed in dental applications. Suitable UV curable formulations may be based on acrylate resins, acrylate monomer systems and unsaturated polyesters. As a liquid photoinitiator, IRGACURE 2022 is especially easy to incorporate into formulations. IRGACURE 2022 exhibits outstanding curing performance in highly opaque furniture coatings or screen inks containing rutile titanium dioxide. Additionally, the outstanding absorption properties of IRGACURE 2022 allow curing of thick sections. IRGACURE 2022 is the most cost-effective solution for curing of pigmented UV-curable compositions due to its outstanding reactivity with a well balanced ratio between through-cure and surface cure. Recommended concentrations Ciba Specialty Chemicals Coating Effects Segment Ciba ® IRGACURE ® 2022 Photoinitiator The amount of IRGACURE 2022 required for optimum performance should be determined in trials covering a concentration range. Clear acrylate coatings: 1.0 – 2.0 % IRGACURE 2022 White acrylate furniture coatings: 1.5 – 3.5 % IRGACURE 2022 White screen printing inks: 2.0 – 4.0 % IRGACURE 2022 Glass reinforced UPES/styrene prepregs and composites: 1.0 – 2.0 % IRGACURE 2022 Safety and Handling Important Notice IRGACURE 2022 should be handled in accordance with good industrial practice. Detailed information is provided in the Safety Data Sheet. IRGACURE 2022 is sensitive to visible light and any exposure to sunlight should be avoided. Opened drums should be closed after use to protect the product against light. IRGACURE 2022 may freeze upon exposure to low temperatures for extended periods of time. Under such circumstances and also upon storage for extended periods below 6 o C it cannot be completely excluded that some crystallization occurs. In both cases the product is readily returned into its original form by gentle heating (30ºC to 50ºC) and stirring for a short period of time.
