Babe Didrikson Zaharias The Ladies Golf Club Championship will take place on the 3 & 4 May which will incorporate the inaugural Gail Wilson Seniors Trophy on the 4 May for ladies of 60 years and older. SPORTS SPORTS AND AND RECREATION RECREATION UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE DAINFERN DAINFERN FOOTBALL The rules of soccer are very simple, basically it is this: if it moves, kick it. If it doesn't move, kick it until it does. Phil Woosnam - Welsh soccer player and manager. Our administration office at the Pavilion has finally been completed and we have moved in. This makes for much better conditions in which to take care of our member’s enquiries and problems. We would like to thank Tony from Maintenance Dept. for the hard work on the office, fence around the field, goal post repairs etc. A big thank you too to Vivian for arranging telephone and data lines for the new office. Not much is happening at the Dainfern Football Club due to the private school holidays. We have approximately 60% of our members on holiday at the moment and as a result have had to postpone two under 12 and two under 14 SAFA games. This situation will continue until the end of April when the schools open. Training too has been poorly attended because of the holidays. The SAFA Little League fixtures kick off on 5th and 6th May with our under 9, 10 and 11 teams participating. Our under 12 and under 16 squads will eventually, after two postponements, kick off on Sunday 6th May. The excitement is building. We intend having regular club get-togethers on Friday afternoons during practice time, where the club parents can meet each other and the club committee and coaches. We intend to hold the get-togethers in the form of a braai, concentrating on selected age groups at a time. but obviously any club member or club parent is welcome to attend any - or all - of the functions. We are arranging suitable braai packs to be available from the tuck shop, and request club parents to contact us with suggestions as to how best organise this. We will communicate detailed information as from early May. Our senior team were unlucky to go down 5 -3 in a high scoring thriller against Bossolona Football Club, and, but for a number of close misses by both teams and some brilliant saves from Michael Semosa, our goalkeeper, the score could have been much higher. This is a young squad and can be proud of its performance.
Our seniors are at home to Durban United Football Club this Saturday, 28th April. Kick off is at 3.30pm. The support of all members and residents would be appreciated Let’s keep the ball rolling DAINFERN DAINFERN RUNNING RUNNING CLUB CLUB Mike Fairon and Ross Elliott competed in the SA Ironman in Port Elizabeth this past weekend and in difficult weather conditions completed the course in 11hrs 02 mins and 11hrs 23 mins respectively. It was a brutal race and an even tougher Ironman than normal. Congratulations to you both!! The Dainfern Running Club will be using the winter route made up of two distances, a 2.6km and a 4.9km route, as from tonight and the time trial will commence at 17h45 sharp. Runners are to meet at the trees below the putting green at 17h30. We love to see new members at the time trial – what a fantastic team to join for support and encouragement in your fitness goals! DAINFERN DAINFERN SQUASH SQUASH Squash is boxing with racquets. ~Jonah Barrington Social squash takes place at the squash courts every Wednesday from 6pm, all are welcome in your clear soled shoes!
