Celebrating Yom Yerushalayim "Ten measures of beauty descended to the world; nine were taken by Jerusalem." (Kiddushin 49b) Yesterday, 8 May 2013, was Yom Yerushalayim. In Jerusalem, they celebrated the reunification of the city by singing Hallel, wearing Yom Tov clothes, and dancing through the city. That significant day in 1967 saw the soldiers of the 19-year old Jewish State reclaim the Old City of Jerusalem which for 3,000 years, was the undivided and eternal capital of the Jewish people. In Jerusalem this year, thousands of people in a sea of blue and white flags marched though the capital. The annual Flag-Dance Parade started at the centre of Jerusalem, and advanced through the Old City to the Kotel. T H E P H C I G E R E T P A G E 1 1
